2012 Aivalis Winery, Monopati

This is an easy, fresh red wine that is produced from 100% Agiorgitiko.

Agiorgitiko is an incredibly widely planted grape varietal throughout the wine growing regions of Greece. Its expressions vary greatly from producer to producer, and this particular Agiorgitiko is understated and lighter bodied.

Notes of just-picked savory herb are immediately noticeable on the palate, and transition and blend nicely with dark fruit. It’s certainly a juicy wine, but the herb and very slight menthol notes add dimension and additional intrigue.

Overall this is a solid representation of a famed, indigenous varietal that’s not to be missed by Greek wine fans.
