Greek basketball power Olympiacos went down meekly to Spanish giant Barcelona, 73-57 in the best-of-five opener in their Euroleague quarter-final series.
Barcelona went on a 17-2 run to take an early 22-8 lead and the game was over before it started, the second poor showing for a Greek team in the tourney after Panathinakos was whipped by CSKA Moscow.
Barcelona dominated every phase of the game over the listless Greek team with the Spanish club nailing 10-of-21 three-pointers compared to 6-for-22 for their rivals. Barcelona controlled the boards with 44 rebounds to Olympiakos’ 14.
No one on the Greek team scored 10 points or more in an ignominious start for Olympiacos, usually a strong contender.
Mario Hezonja, set to be a top 10 pick in the NBA draft, scored five points on 2-of-6 shooting in 17 minutes, adding three rebounds, two blocks and an assist.
