The Greek Coast Guard, overwhelmed by tides of illegal immigrants trying to reach the country, said it had rescued another 213 over a number of islands the night of May 30.
The six rescues took place off Kos, Chios and Lesvos. Authorities said they don’t think any were missing although many in previous attempts to reach Greece have drowned after boats capsized.
There has been a rise in recent months in the number of irregular migrants trying to reach Greece as people flee from Libya, Syria and Afghanistan in particular.
Greece has long complained the European Union does too little to help in terms of money or manpower to help the country cope with the inundation.
