NEW YORK – Respect, reverence and love filled the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity as family, friends and representatives of the Greek-American community bade farewell to Emanuel Demos.
Beneath a brilliant Friday sky in Manhattan Archbishop Demetrios of America presided over the funeral of a beloved husband and father, and a man who has served the Church in virtually every way a layman can, from altar boy to General Legal Counsel of the Archdiocese.
Metropolitans Savas of Pittsburgh and Evangelos of New Jersey also participated in the service as did bishops Antonios of Phasiane and Sevastianos of Zela, along with clergy including Fr. John Vlahos, the Cathedral Dean, Fr. Elias Villas, Fr. Nathanael Symeonides and Archdeacon Panteleimon Papadopoulos.
Amb. Vasilios Philippou, the Consul General of Cyprus was also present with other dignitaries from New York and beyond.
Demos’ son George and Michael Jaharis, Vice Chairman of the Archdiocesan Council, joined Archbishop Demetrios is delivering touching eulogies.
