Nikos Christodoulides, the Government Spokesman of the Republic of Cyprus, declared that any bridging proposals submitted by the UN in the framework of the UN-led peace talks, will be non-biding and with no official standing.
He added that “any such proposals will not, in any way, constitute a form of arbitration, something which, as he recalled, is ruled out by the joint statement of February 11, 2014,” according to CNA, which asked him to comment on “UNSG Special Adviser on Cyprus Epsen Barth Eide`s statement after his meeting on Saturday in New York with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu that when he returns to Cyprus, he will come with ‘some bridging proposals.’” Christodoulides said that “the UN want, in the framework of their presence in Cyprus, through the good offices mission, to help the process and can orally make proposals to help the two parties, without these views being binding or having any official standing.”
