NICOSIA – The dangerous and deteriorating situation in Libya has prompted Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides to shut down his country’s embassy there.

Cypriot residents have been offered the opportunity to leave the diplomatic staff on a Greek frigate that is sailing to Libya to evacuate Greeks and others.

Kasoulides said that “we are following developments in Libya with great concern”, and noted that Cypriots there at first wanted to stay to fulfill contractual obligations.
