ATHENS – Deputy Education Minister Costas Koukodimos has resigned from his post citing personal reasons, denying it was to attend to his businesss.
In a statement released Sept. 1 Koukodimos said he would continue to support the New Democracy Conservative-led government and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’s “huge effort to regenerate the country.”
Koukodimos, a former long-jump champion, had been appointed to the post following a government reshuffle in June.
He told the Athens News Agency (ANA-MPA) his resignation wasn’t about any unhappiness with the responsibilities he was assigned .
“The reasons are totally personal and the prime minister to whom I sent the letter showed understanding. Someone wrote that I resigned to focus on my businesses. This is not true of course,” Koukodimos said adding that his relationship with Education Minister Andreas Loverdos, from the coalition partner PASOK, was good.
