The 79th annual Jersey City Greek Festival was held over the weekend by the Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church in Jersey City.
The festival is a celebration of Greek culture featuring traditional Greek dishes, music, and dancing.
“Bring your family, bring your friends, everyone’s invited to enjoy some good Greek hospitality,” Christos M. Genes, the spokesman for the festival, said last week
The festivities last night, referred to as “Taverna Night,” included performances by DJ “Pete the Greek” Chatzopoulos and a dance performance from the St. Demetrious Greek Orthodox Youth of America Dancers of Perth Amboy.
“Founded in April 1935, the church was established during a time when there was an ‘explosion of Greeks in America,’” Genes said, and every year the festival is a way to gather that community,” NJ.com reported.
