PHILADELPHIA, PA – On a pleasant spring Philadelphia morning, dozens of well-wishers – which included family members, friends, and colleagues, some dressed in full academic regalia -packed the Congregation Rodeph Shalom, a few blocks from the Main Campus of the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) to celebrate the formal inauguration of that institution’s sixth president, Dr. Donald (“Guy”) Generals, Jr.

A lifelong educator with a commitment to full integration of students into the workforce – an appropriate blend of theoretical and practical experience – Generals was enthusiastically embraced by the CCP community, many of his current colleagues describing the energy and purpose he has brought to the institution since taking over as president last July.

Generals invoked the lessons of Booker T. Washington, the subject of his doctoral dissertation, which he converted into the book Booker T. Washington: The Architect of Progressive Education (Strategic Publishing, 2013).

Following the morning’s inauguration, there were two receptions – one midday and one in the afternoon – on the Main Campus to continue the celebration.
