Golden Dawn Member of Parliament Constantinos Barbarousis, arrested along with his party’s other lawmakers on charges of running a criminal gang, has been cleared along with 10 other suspects of any involvement in a raid on an open-air market in the town in September 2012 during which migrants’ stalls were smashed.

“Today, it was emphatically proved that we are innocent,” Barbarousis said as he walked out of the court, where dozens of party supporters had gathered in solidarity. “All judges, it seems, are not the same,” he added.

Video footage had shown the deputy for Aetoloacarnania walking through the street market as part of a self-appointed inspection ordered by the party during which migrant street traders were asked to display licenses.

Members and supporters of the party are alleged to have smashed up some of the stalls but despite the evidence they were acquitted of any wrongdoing.

All 16 of the neofascist party’s MPs, two former lawmakers and dozens of members and supporters have been implicated in the party’s alleged criminal activities.

A trial is expected to begin in the coming weeks.a
