ATHENS – Education Minister Andreas Loverdos said any teachers implicated in a probe of online predators and those found to have made sexual advances to minors will be fired.

It’s almost impossible in Greece to fire any civil servant but Loverdos, showing no tolerance for the alleged crimes said to have been uncovered by the police’s cyber crimes squad, said he would move to immediately dismiss any teachers who are implicated.

So far, the investigation has reportedly found four teachers using the Internet to make sexual advances to the under-aged but the number could be as high as 100, authorities said.

In comments after talks with the head of the cyber crimes unit Manolis Sfakianakis, Loverdos said there would be no leniency in such cases.

“All of those people – whoever they are, whatever they are – will be immediately ejected from the education system,” he said.
