The new Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Catherine Boura, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on March 10, the United Nations via its website reported.

Boura was Ambassador of Greece to Lebanon, beginning in 2011, after serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Chief of Protocol from 2009 to 2011 and as Director of the Department for European Countries from 2008 to 2009, the UN reported.

Prior to that, Boura was Greece’s Consul General in New York from 2004 to 2007 and worked on European Union presidency issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Diplomatic Office from 2003 to 2004, and before that served in the Policy Planning and Early Warning Unit of the Council of the European Union in Brussels from 1999 to 2002.

She was, from 1997 to 1999, European Correspondent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy.  She joined the diplomatic service in 1983.

Born in Athens, Boura earned a bachelor’s degree in literature from Athens University.both a master’s degree and a doctorate in history from London University.
