Greece won the women’s European Under-19 Championship water polo final in Italy beating the host in a Sept. 14, gaining its second gold medal in the competition’s history.

The Greek teenagers dominated the match but had to hang on to win by 7-6 after leading by 7-4 in the last period.

Greece’s women had failed to gain a spot in the 2012 Olympics but there is now hope the younger players can get the country back into the international limelight.
