ATHENS – Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris has been charged with violating privacy laws by recording a conversation he had with a former aide to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the New Democracy Conservative leader.
Kasidiaris, the spokesman for the ultra-far right party, is in jail with six other Members of Parliament from the extremists who are awaiting trial on charges of running a criminal gang. He’s also facing charges of assaulting a Communist MP on a live TV show.
The prosecutor brought the new charges in a case in which Kasidiaris recorded a talk with former New Democracy Cabinet Secretary Panagiotis Baltakos in which the two talked about the judicial investigation into the party.
The prosecutor brought the charges a few days after Greek MPs’ voted to lift the lawmaker’s immunity. The video led to Baltakos being forced out of his position.
