ATHENS – An assault case against Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris for slapping Communist lawmaker Liana Kanelli on live TV two years ago will be heard by a court.
Kasidiaris is already in detention along with other extremist party leaders, among all the 18 Members of Parliament from the extremists charged with running a criminal gang. They have denied all charges, including using Nazi methodology.
Kasidiaris was seen on the show on Antenna in June, 2012 first throwing water in the face of Rena Dourou of the major opposition Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) who is now Attica’s Regional Governor.
Then he took swings at Kanelli as she got up, the incident seen on TV and as other guests on the show sat bewildered. He was locked in an office by workers but broke out and ran and hid so he couldn’t be immediately charged. He’s being charged with attempt grievous bodily harm.
An Athens court was scheduled to hear the case against Golden Dawn’s Ilias Kasidiaris in connection to charges of attempted grievous bodily harm to Greek Community Party (KKE) MP Liana Kanelli, during a brawl on a live morning show on Antenna television in June 2012.
The episode happened during a tense debate over oil reserves south of Crete and as Golden Dawn was surging in popularity and gaining 18 seats in the Parliament that month.
