NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Islanders continued their unbeaten start to the new NHL season by scoring four goals from just seven shots in the third period to beat the sliding New York Rangers 6-3.
Kyle Okposo netted his 100th NHL goal to put the Islanders ahead in the opening minute of the final frame.
Among the day’s other games, New Jersey made it three wins from three road games to start the season when they won at Tampa Bay, Toronto won in overtime against Colorado, and Dallas notched its first victory of the campaign by winning at Columbus.
The Islanders broke loose for four goals in the first 11 minutes of the third and improved to 3-0 while sending the Rangers (1-3) to their third straight loss.
After Okposo’s goal, Brock Nelson made it 4-2 at 4:50, and Mikhail Grabovski connected 30 seconds later to make it a three-goal edge.
New Jersey’s Cory Schneider made 26 saves to help the Devils win 2-1 at Tampa Bay. Travis Zajac put New Jersey ahead and that stood until 8:59 in the third when Alex Killorn replied for the Lightning.
Mike Cammalleri scored what proved the winner on a power play at 11:19.
