Evangelos Venizelos , the outgoing Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, told his successor, Nicos Kotzias, that the Cyprus problem “is always our top national issue”,  during the ceremony where he handed over the Ministry.

“Venizelos said the Ministry maintained close cooperation with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, adding that ‘we promote two fundamental issues, the importance of the status and continuation of the international legal identity of the Republic of Cyprus and the referendum as the conclusion of any negotiation,’ in order for any agreement to be “democratically accepted by the people of Cyprus,” CNA reported.

He also described the  violation by the Turkish ship Barbaros of Cyprus` exclusive economic zone (EEZ) a blatant violation of the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus.
