ATHENS — Stefanos Athanasiadis and Facundo Pereyra scored as PAOK beat Olympiakos 2-1 on Dec. 3 to extend its lead in the Greek league to five points.

The PAOK captain met a cross from Giannis Skondras in the 43rd minute, silencing fans at the Karaiskaki Stadium. David Fuster leveled before half time, hammering a left-footed volley past goalkeeper Panagiotis Glykos.

Pareyra grabbed the winner shortly after the break, netting from distance. PAOK held on thanks to a handful of fine saves from Glykos, while a late shot from Alejandro Dominguez hit the crossbar.

“We weren’t afraid and the win came,” Athanasiadis said. “We knew they’d press us and that we’d find space on the counterattacks. To come here, win, and stay top, that’s a big psychological boost for us.”

Season surprise Kalloni stayed third despite losing 2-1 at Xanthi, while PAS Giannina suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss at home to Levadiakos. Veria held Atromitos 0-0, and Kerkyra and Panthrakikos both won 1-0 at home, beating Panionios and Platanias.

Panathinaikos is hoping to move up to third place when it travels to Panetolikos on Dec. 4. Niki Volos takes on Asteras, while OFI faces Ergotelis in a Cretan derby.

The mid-week games were added after the Greek league was twice suspended this season due to violence.
