The festival of the church of the Assumption of St. Clair Shores, MI was a sea of people from August 15-17. The Divine Liturgy on the Feast Day of Assumption was celebrated by Metropolitan Nicholas and Fr. Michael Varlamos and the festival followed, attracting thousands of Greeks and Philhellenes.
The festivities featured continuous performances by numerous dance groups whose members wore traditional costumes. The Oneiro orchestra, which includes second and third generation Greek-American musicians, including Nicholas Varlamos, the pastor’s son, on vocals, generated much kefi.
More than 250 volunteers helped make the big festival a reality. The ladies of the Philoptochos Society were in perpetual motion until Sunday night.
