CROWN POINT, IN – Stamatia Georgiades Zembillas, beloved mother and grandmother, fell asleep in the Lord on Holy Tuesday, April 7 at St. Anthony’s Home in Crown Point, IN.
Stamatia, the mother of Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh, was born in Tarpon Springs, FL on September 20, 1928. Her parents, Savas and Kaliope (Ergou) Georgiades were of Kalymnian and Cyprian ancestry. She was the second of five children and is survived by her youngest sister, Mary (Mrs. Peter) Sargologos, a niece, Kally (Mrs. Peter) Attard, and two great nieces, of Los Angeles CA.
She married Skevofylax (Steve) Zembillas of Kalymnos, Greece on April 25, 1955, at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Tarpon Springs, FL. Their offspring also include Charles Zembillas of Los Angeles CA; John (and Dee) Zembillas of Cedar Lake IN, whose children are Anthony, Timothy and Stamatia (Stammy); Kaliope (Mrs. Thomas) Miller of Billings MT, whose children are Andrew, Steven, Alex and Maria; Demetri (and Joyce Papalazarou) Zembillas of Crown Point, IN whose children are Skevos and Maria; and Maria (Mrs. Steve) Mallonee of Chesterfield MO, whose children are Matthew, Aaron and Stamatia (Tia).
Zembillas is also mourned by her sister-in-law Maria (Mrs. Jimmie) Zembillas, and niece and nephews Nomiki (Mrs. Steve) Leontaras and their 4 children, Charles (and Dee) Zembillas and two children, and Harry Zembillas.
A member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral in Merrillville, IN, where her funeral will be held on Bright Tuesday, April 14, Stamatia was a longtime Sunday School Kindergarten teacher and was active in Philoptochos until incapacitated by Alzheimer’s.
