ATHENS – Greek police have arrested a 26-year-old Romanian man on suspicion of killing well-known author Menis Koumandareas at his home on Dec. 6 and were searching for another Romanian suspect.

Koumandareas was found dead at his home in the downtown neighborhood of Kypseli. A postmortem examination revealed he had been strangled to death. Police said they believe the two suspects attempted to rob him.

The 26-year-old claimed he had known Koumandareas for more than a decade and had gone to his apartment with his friend to ask the author to lend him some money.

The suspect alleged that Koumandareas refused and that he and his friend pushed the writer, leading to his death.
