In response to the government’s decision early on Saturday to order the civil mobilization of PPC employees and the requisition of their services, main opposition Radical Left Coalition SYRIZA party’s media representative Panos Skourletis issued the following statement on Sunday afternoon:
“The struggle of PPC employees for a public and uniform company, which will be ensuring cheap electricity to the citizens and will correspond to its growth-social role, enjoys the support of a wide social and political front of Greek society.
It is obvious, that the governmental planning for a small-private PPC serves specific economic interests and leads to oligopolistic situations, disregarding the true needs of Greek society.
The authoritarianism with which PPC employees are confronted through their political mobilization, confirms that the Samaras government, along with the extremely antisocial policy it applies, also smites Democracy itself. Concurrently, the governmental rejection of SYRIZA’s proposal as regards a ‘small PPC’ referendum, serves to also reveleal its fear against the Greek people and their capability to freely express their opinion”.
