Engineers have determined that part of the massive flat-topped rock on which the Parthenon sits in Athens’ Acropolis is crumbling, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Experts from Greece’s Central Archaeological Council found “instability” over a large portion of the Acropolis, after investigating the fall in January of a boulder “of considerable size,” the Telegraph reported.

Restoration of the site is underway, however, reported the International Business Times, which also noted that the archaeologists have attributed the pending collapse to water damage from pipes of the old Acropolis Museum.
