Known for its charismatic port – one of the most beautiful in all of Greece – the picturesque island of Poros in the Saronic Gulf is host to the annual East Med Yacht Show. The international exhibition brings together prestigious charter agencies, brokers, yachting industry professionals, travel agents, tour operators, and media representatives for a weekend highlighting luxury travel by sea.
The show includes boat tours, boat party hopping, chef competitions, and networking as the port of Poros is filled from one end to the other with some of the prettiest yachts that have ever sailed the Greek islands. And while there will be plenty to see at port, taking part in the East Med Yacht Show is a great chance to tour Poros, whether you’ve been here before or not.
A volcanic island (actually split in two), Poros is filled with neoclassical architecture, pebbled beaches, and lush green nature. The main port and town of Poros is situated on the tiny islet of Sfairia attached by a small bridge to the larger and very green Kalavria. Nearby islands (great for island hopping) include Hydra, Spetses, and Aegina.
While you’re visiting the island, do climb to the historic clock tower of Poros. You’ll only reach the top (with a breathtaking view especially during the sunset) by climbing stairs winding through quaint neighborhood alleys and tiny island houses on your way. Then there’s the Russian Naval Station, the Temple of Poseidon, the Monastery of Zoodochou Pigis, and the Archeological Museum of Poros which are some of the island’s most popular spots to visit as well.
The 2015 East Med Yacht Show is being held April 30th to May 4th. The show is organized by the Hellenic Yacht Brokers Association, the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association, and the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies.
