The first youth camp “IMAGINE PEACE” on Olympic Truce will be held between July 26-31 at the IOA premises, which are situated next to the archaeological site in Ancient Olympia, the place where the Olympic Games and Olympism, as an idea and philosophy of life, were born and developed.
The event is organized by the International Center of Olympic Truce and addresses the issues of Peace, Olympic Truce, Respect for Diversity, and Conflict Resolution.
The Imagine Peace Youth Camp will bring together 80 young people, aged between 18 and 25 years, from more than 10 countries around the world, to engage in interactive workshops and sport activities that promote the Olympic Values.
The camp is held under the auspices of Education Ministry in cooperation with the UN Bureau for Sports, Development and Peace, the British Council, the Olympic Academy and the Institute of Youth and Lifelong Education.
According to the British Council’s official site, the objectives of the camp are to help the young people:
-share their personal experiences with the rest of the group
-explore the role of sports in peace building and development
-develop their competences in intercultural learning
-learn about human rights as framework for conflict transformation and dialogue.
